Finding a Job in Mauritius

Sectors that are hiring, the Occupation Permit and salary thresholds, remote work with the Premium Visa: the manual for working legally in Mauritius.

Finding a Job in Mauritius

Working in Mauritius as a foreigner follows one simple rule: obtain an Occupation Permit, the pass that combines work permit and residence permit. Three profiles qualify: the employee with a local contract, the self-employed, and the investor who creates a company. And for those who keep their European employer, the Premium Visa turns Mauritius into an office with a lagoon view. Here is the manual.

The sectors that are hiring

  • Information technology: development, data, cybersecurity: Mauritian tech is growing fast.
  • Financial services: the island is a recognised international financial centre; banking, insurance and asset management recruit qualified profiles.
  • Tourism and hospitality: the historic pillar of the economy, from hotel management to restaurants.
  • Industry: textiles and higher-value manufacturing.
  • Education: international schools regularly look for English- and French-speaking teachers.

The Occupation Permit: the passport to work

The employee OP requires a contract with a Mauritian company and a base salary of at least MUR 50,000 per month (around €1,000), a threshold unified across all sectors since the 2026/27 budget. It is issued for ten years, renewable, and covers your family.

Two other routes exist: the self-employed OP for independents (USD 50,000 deposit) and the investor OP for those who create their company (from USD 100,000 since the 2026/27 budget), with 15% corporate tax and untaxed dividends, detailed in our tax guide. The full panorama of permits is in our article on becoming a Mauritian resident.

Remote work: the Premium Visa option

Keeping your employer or clients in Europe? The Premium Visa lets you live in Mauritius for up to a year, renewable, while working remotely. With only 2 to 3 hours of time difference with Paris, your morning meetings stay morning meetings. It is the ideal entry route to try the island before a longer-term project.

Our job-search advice

  1. Adapt your CV to local standards, in English or French depending on the role.
  2. Target local platforms such as MyJob.mu, and specialised recruitment firms.
  3. Network: professional events and expat associations open more doors than cold applications.
  4. Look at the French companies established here: AXA, Orange, Decathlon and others regularly recruit bilingual profiles on the island.
